Heart Tattoos

Today is Valentines Day or as some say ‘Singles Awareness Day”.  One of the most popular tattoos in existence is a tattoo about love. Either a persons name, a heart or even a wedding band permanently inked on your finger.  A heart Tattoo dedicated to ‘Mom’ is a classic example of a lifetime of love and commitment that would never fail or end. This is probably the safest love tattoo a person can get.

A heart tattoo can mean several things.  It can represent a devotion to religion, an everlasting love for someone or something or can be a symbol for life itself.
Heart tattoos represent a trust and a belief in love and lasting devotion. Unfortunately these are also the number one tattoo that is removed or covered. A tattoo will last forever and in most cases it will outlast most relationships.

Many celebrities have been seen with tattoos that show devotion and love only to be removed years later once the relationship ends.  Angelina Jolie, who had her husband (married from 2000-2003), Billy Bob Thornton’s name tattooed on her arm once said,  “I’ll never be stupid enough to have a man’s name tattooed on me again”.

If you are thinking of proving your everlasting love to someone with a tattoo, be sure you consider that this tattoo is a lifetime commitment and is not something to do spontaneously.

If you had a tattoo dedicated to a particular person and want to have it removed, check out these earlier articles on tattoo removal.

Bar Code Tattoo

Technology style tattoos are very popular these days.  Many people either for their love of technology, fascination with sci-fi or cynicism towards the governments grasp of our personal lives, get a Bar Code Tattoo.

A Bar Code Tattoo can be either decorative or actually scannable and reveals a secret message to the person who scans it.  Bar codes can reveal numbers, letters or symbols depending on the bar code you choose.  In making your specialized bar code, letters and numbers are converted into a pattern of wide or narrow lines.

A more contemporary form of a bar code is the QR Code or Quick Response Code.   This is a square shaped code originally designed for the automotive industry but due to its ability to hold larger amounts of information and it is easily read with any smart phone that has the proper application.  There are many free websites that can produce such codes and helps you to create your own free tattoo designs.  The QR Code can hold more information as well as website addresses.

Of course as with any tattoo, when you age there can be some blurring of the lines and some sagging of the skin.  This is why you would want to choose a spot on your body that isn’t subject to a lot of wrinkling or sagging from age.  The best tattoo locations for a bar code design would be the back, shoulders, forearm and back of neck.  These areas tend to be more flat and the skin doesn’t usually stretch much over the years.

Christmas Star Tattoos on Body

Star of Bethlehem, Magi - wise men or wise kings travel on camels with entourage across the deserts to find the savior, moon, desert, Holy Bible, Etching, 1885

Christmas is fast approaching and I am feeling in the Christmas mood.  What better way to celebrate the season then with Christmas tattoos on body.

Many people get star tattoos for various reasons but the Christmas star or Star of Bethlehem has a significant christian meaning.  The Star of Bethlehem is what the Magi or Wise men followed in order to find the baby Jesus in the manger.

The star appears in the biblical story, the Gospel of Mathew.  In this story the Magi of the East were inspired to follow this star to Jerusalem were they met with King Herod who directed them to Bethlehem.  Once they found the baby Jesus they showered him with gifts. (gold, frankincense and Muir).

Some believe this star represents a prophecy known as a star prophecy.  This prophecy appears in many biblical scripts that signify revolt.  I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab, And destroy all the sons of tumult – Book of Numbers

The Jehovah Witness’ believe the star is actually not a sign from God but rather a device of Satan.  The star first lead the Magi to Jesus’ enemy, King Herod.  The King wanted to find Jesus, The King of Jews, in order to put him to death.  He instructed the wise men to find Jesus and then report back to him.  He in turn directed them to Bethlehem and the star lead them directly to Jesus’ manger.  That evening the Magi had a dream that told them not to return to Herod but to go directly home.

Tattoos pictures last a long time and when you choose what tattoo is right for you, you should consider the star of Bethlehem because of its significant historical meaning and story.

Knuckle Tattoo Mania and Messages

Luis says LESS TALK

In the tattoo world, it’s all about expressing a message, feeling or making a statement about who you are. The knuckle tattoo is a perfect way to do this with tattoo lettering that spells out a word or words to compliment (usually!) your other body tattoos and the overall message of your ink.  Just in case you are not totally sure what the knuckle tattoo is all about, just think of the guys and gals that put their fists out and line them up next to each other.  The space between their knuckle and first finger joint has lettering that spells out “Hard Luck” or “Paid Dues”.  There is quite a lot that can be said in the 8 letter spaces available, especially for those that are very creative.  While most of these tattoos are two separate words, usually one per hand, they can also be put together to spell out one word, like “Patience”.  If the message is important enough, sometimes it is extended to the smaller region between the first and second finger joints so that a longer message can be read, like “Don’t Stop Dreaming”.

The love of the knuckle tattoo is most likely due to the fact that people really like to quote things and those quotes end up being a kind of personal mantra.  Quite a lot of angst, pain, purpose, memories, reminders and threats can be captured using eight simple letters!  There are many great messages that can be summed up and made plain by the use of tattoos on your hands.  It can be interesting to also see the many small images that can be placed on knuckles as well.  They are not only for lettering or words, and can also be a great place to display some of your favorite things that may be too small to devote to a larger tattoo on another part of your body.  Many female tattoo enthusiasts also choose to adorn their knuckles with small items such as cupcakes, stars, hearts, clovers, diamonds, or numbers that have meaning to them.  Yes, sometimes it can be rather girly items, but the point is that it is all the things they love right there on their hands so that they are always with them.

There is another genre of knuckle tattoo that is more of a challenge.  That challenge is that of the tiny tattoo! There are some that will fit entire faces onto their knuckle, or other such images that would normally be seen elsewhere on the body, shrunken down to the inch or so space that is on their hand.  With a highly talented tattoo artist, it can make for some truly amazing tiny but still rich and full, tattoos.  The detail that can be captured is quite impressive as is the skill that it takes to accomplish this kind of super small tattoo.  However, none of these are for the faint of heart. Tattooing your hand is the most blatant way to get across your message, what ever that may be, and show the world what you think and who you are.

Upper Arm Tattoos

Tattoos can be a something special like honoring something or someone you care deeply about like family members, pets, or your favorite art and pictures. An upper arm tattoo is a noble position for a memorial tattoo.  It is higher up on the body and and is easily seen.  If you are getting a tattoo that you want to carry around for the rest of your life and be proud to wear then upper arm tattoos are a great choice.

My mother has my grandmothers portrait on her upper right arm.  My grandmother was the glue that held the family together and she was killed in a car accident 2001.  To honor my grandmother my mother and uncles decided to all get the same tattoo that would represent and honor my grandmothers life.

The tattoo on her upper arm is a portrait of my grandmothers face. It is a remembrance of her life and represents the memories and love that she left behind. For my mother and uncles the tattoo signifies a lifetime lot of memories, respect and love.

If you are thinking of getting a tattoo and you have a special memory or just a favorite drawing or picture that you would love to cherish and enjoy for years to come then a tattoo is a good way of doing so. Tattoos have been around for many years and will probably be around for many more to come.  Times are changing but one thing that never changes is expression. We enjoy expressing something special for all to see and enjoy as much as we enjoy. A tattoo is something that will be deep in your skin that will never fade or wash away you will never lose it or misplace it. You will carry this tattoo around and be able to be proud of whatever makes you happy or is special to your heart.

Upper arm tattoos are a good location to put something that you are proud and want to show off or just for people to see when you wear clothes that show it. Be proud of who and what you like. Dare to be different.

Choosing the Best Tribal Tattoo Drawing for You

Turtle Tribal Vector Image

Getting a tribal tattoo is a huge decision to make in your life. For starters, these tattoos are permanent and therefore it is very important to choose the best tribal tattoo drawing suited for your personality.

This kind of tattoo design is all in the rage nowadays because more and more people want symbolic tattoos with strong personal meanings.   These designs may be in the form of zodiac signs, mystical creatures and beings, abstract designs, skulls, reptiles, and the list goes on.  Tribal tattoo drawings have strong abstract patterns and lines that stand out and look fierce.

Tribal tattoo designs are plentiful online and in books as well as  looking at the people around you.  Many have tattoo drawings on their bodies, of which you can use as reference for your own designs.   Some artists display portfolios online of different tribal designs and all you have to do is to print them out and carefully decide where to place them on your body and its size.

You might also want to first consult your chosen tattoo artist as what design he/she recommends for you.  In addition, it is also very important to take into consideration which part of your body you intend to place the tattoo and how big. Some people might want to opt for a huge tribal tattoo design on their arm or back. some might prefer a more discreet type.  In which case,  you might want to go for a small one on your nape or at the bottom of your back.   Tribal tattoo drawings work perfectly regardless of size or placement.  They are guaranteed to look stunning where ever they are placed and no matter how big.

With whatever tribal tattoo drawing you choose, it is important to make sure that the design actually means something to you and it is not just a random whimsical decision you make out of curiosity or joining the bandwagon. The meaning behind the tattoo is what truly counts.

Leg Tattoos For Girls

Singapore Tattoo Show 2009

There are different reasons for a body tattoo, especially those body parts which are exposed for everyone even when you are fully clothed. This is true in the case of leg tattoos for girls, who may have made the decision out of pure impulse, after due deliberation or due to peer group pressure and so on. Some of the questions you should ask yourself before you enter the tattoo artist’s parlor is why you want one and if you will still want it after say ten years from now. You may want to do it as a fashion statement or a public display of courage or affection. The answers to the questions are important since most tattoos are for life!

Once you are sure that you want to get a tattoo on your leg, the next question is where exactly? You can have it done on your thighs, legs or even feet. Now consider what exactly do you want? Do you want to merely pick a tattoo from a book that can fit a certain price range or do you want to custom design a tattoo that has long lasting personal meaning?  How big do you want the design to be? And do you want it done in an ordinary salon or somewhere exclusive where it will cost you dearly? If it be the latter, you are more likely to get wider choices in design and have it executed more artistically.  Finding a good Tattoo artist should be a priority because not only do you want them to practicing good health and safety procedures but also the skill and artistic talents of a true professional.  The artists in the tattoo studio should be able to develop a good design if you give them some rough ideas.

Having done some soul searching as above, let us now take a look at what is ‘hot’ these days. Designs such as tribal passion, flowers, hearts, Russian butterfly, Rhythmic Roses or tribal humming bird are considered IN these days for legs. This is usually tattooed on the calf, may be upper or at times even lower calf, generally on the outside so that it is visible even when you are wearing socks. Celebrities are loving tattoos especially with Hollywood celebs like Aaliyah, Drew Barrymore or Victoria Beckham and others, all of whom have stars on their ankles or feet. Other celebs such as Rihanna, Britney Spears and Gisele Bundchen seem to prefer humming birds. The tribal purity, tribal sun or petal, true love of life, falling stars, love rat and seraph are also in fashion. The choices available are too many and it may be prudent for you to browse for some of the possible and available designs before you lock on to one. There is also high demand for Chinese, Korean and Japanese inscriptions along with pictures as above.
